Currency Project: In my graphic design 2 class, I was tasked with creating new currency for any fictional or nonfictional country/place. I chose the U.S, since I have the most experience with not only American currency, but culture as well. I thought it would be a fun idea to copy the unique designs of the U.S quarter. Each quarter has a design that is unique to a certain state. I wanted to implement that idea to the bills as well. My vision was for each state to have the same design across each bill, regardless of denomination. The only thing that changes within the design is the color, which would match the denomination of the bill (blue with 20, red with 50, etc.) I wanted to honor the things that made each state unique, while also maintaining a common unity in the design to emphasize that every state is under one nation. Each state design would incorporate the state animal, state flag, and state flower. I didn't try and mask or color balance the flowers because I wanted to respect their amazing vibrance and colors. I only did the back of the Texas bill, but I wanted to incorporate important figures in the history of the state. I also included the state insect, which is the monarch butterfly for Texas. Compared to the one dollar bill, my design is definitely more simple. My design, compared to the one dollar bill, uses more bold colors, larger images, and a more unison design. Overall I think it turned out very well, I tried to walk the fine line between busy and boring and I believe I did a good job.
